๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿˆ Caring for your cats

Summary

Two cats live on your farm โ€” and like real cats, they have lives of their own. Here’s everything they’ll need from you, and everything they’ll give back.

Your Bombay cat is the velvet-black one โ€” a homebody who patrols the farm, naps in sunbeams and always knows when the food bowl is about to be filled.

The Tuxedo Tabby wears a white bib and works for a living: when she’s fed and rested, she’ll head out with Joe to hunt for flowers in the Factories, at the Water Sawmill and in Bellflower Meadow.

Both of them eat, drink, sleep, play and sulk entirely on their own schedule. Your job isn’t to control them โ€” it’s to look after them. They’ll notice.

At a glance

  • Four bars โ€” Hunger, Thirst, Energy and Mood. Rest your cursor on a cat to check on her.
  • Four hearts โ€” feeding, water, playing, petting & grooming. Keep them full and she’ll show you she adores you.
  • Cats eat Cat Food โ€” you cook it in your Kitchen; one recipe adds 7 Cat Food to the Barn.
  • Water is free โ€” just top up the bowl, and keep it a good distance from the food (about five Crop Fields).
  • Four pets per meal, one brushing a day โ€” affection has a rhythm, and she keeps count.
  • Playtime needs a home โ€” a Cat Cottage or a Whisker Tree Haven, plus the Mouse on String Cat Toy.
  • They live their own lives โ€” food races, hissing matches, best-friend sprints and naps in the wrong bed.
  • Too much drama? You can move the cats to the Warehouse anytime.

The Four Little Bars

Rest your cursor on a cat and you’ll see how she’s doing at a glance

๐Ÿ– Hunger๐Ÿ’ง Thirstโšก Energy๐Ÿ˜บ Mood

  • Hunger โ€” she’ll want a meal about once an hour. A hungry cat begs, sulksโ€ฆ and picks fights.
  • Thirst โ€” cats drink more often than they eat. Keep the water bowl topped up and she’ll help herself.
  • Energy โ€” running and playing tire her out. The green bar is her sprint fuel; the yellow mark behind it is how deeply rested she truly is โ€” and only a proper sleep brings that back.
  • Mood โ€” the reward for everything else. It’s built from the affection you’ve given her, and it only shows when her needs are met.

๐Ÿ– Feeding Time

First, the menu. The milk bottle has been retired. Cats now eat proper Cat Food, and you make it yourself in the Farm Kitchen. Note that 1 recipe = 7 Cat Food added to your Barn, so a single cooking session keeps the household purring for quite a while.

Cat Food requires 3 Bacon, 1 Goat Milk, 1 Egg, 1 Carrot & 1 Potato.

The bowl offers a meal only once your cat actually hungry โ€” no overfeeding, no waste. And here’s the fun part: the bowls are shared. Put food out when both cats are hungry and you’ll get a race โ€” first one to the dish wins it, the loser sits nearby, begging pitifully, while the winner guards her meal with a warning hiss. Cats.

You do assign each bowl to a cat โ€” but, much as in real life, that’s a record of your optimistic intentions. Whoever reaches the food first eats it. The assignment still earns its keep, though: your cat’s bowl is her feeding clock โ€” it tells you when she needs her next meal, even if she helped herself from the other bowl entirely.

You can’t get rid of a hungry cat. If she’s starving and you scroll away, she will chase you across the farm and plant herself in the middle of your screen. Feeding her is the only cure โ€” as any cat owner knows. If you’d rather sit out the drama altogether, you can always move the cats to the Warehouse.

๐Ÿ’ง Water โ€” and where to put it

Fill the water bowl and thirsty cats will come drink on their own, a sip at a time, until it needs topping up again. One thing worth knowing: cats are particular about this โ€” they like their food and water bowls set well apart. Food right next to the water source doesn’t smell right to a cat. Give the two bowls some distance, about five Crop Fields away from the food is the rule of thumb โ€” and your cat will be that little bit happier.

โšก Sleep โ€” let her have it

A cat who’s played hard will wind down all by herself: a sit, a wash, then off to her bed for a real sleep. A full night’s rest takes just a few minutes of your time โ€” and she wakes up completely refreshed, stretching at her doorstep before wandering off. If she’s only a little tired she’ll take a quick power nap right where she is.

One small change along the way: waking a sleeping pet used to sound a horn. It’s now a gentle bell. She’s napping, after all โ€” we’re not directing traffic.

Be gentle with a tired cat. You can wake a sleeping cat once she’s had some rest โ€” but push her too hard, keep her running when she’s spent, and she’ll simply collapse. And she’ll remember who did that to her.

๐Ÿ˜บ Love, petting & the slow blink

Once she’s fed and watered, a click is a pet โ€” and she’ll answer with happy paw-taps, a purr, a chirpy meow. She’ll accept 4 pets per meal โ€” every feeding opens a fresh round โ€” each one building a bond she genuinely remembers. That bond doesn’t vanish the moment she gets hungry; it’s simply hidden behind an empty stomach, and snaps right back the moment you feed her. Neglect her for days, though, and it will slowly cool.

Watch for the slow blink โ€” eyes drifting shut, once, twice, three times, unhurried. Cat people know: that’s a kiss. (When she’s hungry, it’s also shameless flattery. She knows what she’s doing.)

Once a day you can brush her โ€” open her panel, take the Cat Brush, and stroke it across her fur until it shines. How it works? While hovering with the Cat Brush over the Cat, click and drag to brush.

Try to brush her twice and she’ll flatly run away from the brush; persist, and you’ll get hissed at. Fair enough.

โค๏ธ The Four Hearts โ€” and the coveted one

Above her panel live four little hearts โ€” feeding, water, playing, petting & grooming โ€” and each one fills as you tend to that part of her life, day after day. They’re the honest answer to the only question that matters here: are you a good cat caretaker? (The hearts are part of our new Animal Enrichment care system, which will grow to cover more of your animals over time.)

Keep all four full and you’ll earn the thing cat keepers quietly compete for: she’ll slow blink at you โ€” the cat’s kiss โ€” and a heart floats up from her, unprompted, in the middle of an ordinary afternoon. That heart means she absolutely adores you. It cannot be bought, clicked, or hurried โ€” only earned.

๐Ÿงธ Playtime

Playtime takes two things: a proper home โ€” a Cat Cottage or a Whisker Tree Haven โ€” and the Mouse on String Cat Toy. Place the toy and click it to tempt a cat over. One click rarely does it โ€” cats come when they decide, so keep clicking the Mouse and one of them will saunter over, size up the toy, and pounce. Each cat is good for one proper play session a day; after that the toy just wiggles temptingly, ignored, in the truest feline tradition.

Their own little lives

  • Friendship is fed. Two well-fed, happy cats seek each other out to run and play together, then groom side by side โ€” the coveted “play together” every cat household hopes for. Two hungry cats who cross paths? A hissing match. Keeping the peace on your farm starts with the food bowls.
  • The dog learns his lesson. Steer your dog into a cat’s space and she’ll tolerate a poke or two with an indignant swat โ€” the third time, she attacks, and he runs off yelping.
  • Terry the raccoon, evicted. If the raccoon wanders too close, about half the time a cat will decide today is the day โ€” one theatrical pounce and Terry bolts. The other half, she watches him pass with regal indifference.
  • Favourite spots. A content cat will climb up to sit on her cottage platform or her perch in the tree haven, washing herself and surveying her domain โ€” just because it’s hers.

๐Ÿก A home of her own

Every cat starts with a simple basket, and you can settle her into a Cat Cottage or a Whisker Tree Haven โ€” a whole cat kingdom with beds up in the branches, a climbing trunk and a play platform. Each cat has her own assigned home, but don’t be surprised to find one napping in the other’s bed. They’re cats. The rules are more of a suggestion.

๐Ÿพ 5-Minute Cat Keeping and Care

  • Feed both cats when they’re hungry โ€” a fed pair becomes a playing pair, and that’s the best show on the farm.
  • Keep water down, a good distance from the food.
  • Pet her after meals โ€” that’s when she’ll accept affection, and the bond adds up day after day.
  • Brush once a day, play once a day โ€” she keeps track, and her care hearts show it.
  • Let sleeping cats lie. A rested cat is a playful cat.

Every behaviour in this guide is real and running in the game โ€” the races, the grudges, the slow blinks, the stolen naps in the wrong bed. Hundreds of small touches went into making the cats as close to real life as we could get them, and we believe no other farming game has anything quite like them.
